Two weeks ago my brother visited me and while walking around in one of the best places in Oslo, the harbour Aker Brygge, we discovered a very interesting photo exhibition, called Tracing freedom.
Norwegian photographer Tom Hatlestad told me the story of his great journey. He spent 4 months driving form Norway to Bangladesh. Along the way, he photographed a hundred very different people. He asked them to define freedom and hopes to encourage people to think about the freedom they experience in their own lives, countries and neighbourhoods. Ultimately, he wants to inspire a more open-minded acceptance of other people’s attitudes.
Tom is now planning to continue his journey with his Land Rover in october. In about twenty months he will drive from Norway down to South Africa, take the boat to Argentina and drive up to North America. It’s only him, his Land Rover and a borrowed camera, not very luxurious, but as I talked to him I realised he must be a very rich man, being able to see so much of the world and meeting so many different people.
You can visit the Tracing Freedom exhibition until the 28th of August outside the Oslo City Hall.
